Sea Otter Shirt - Wildlife Art - Pen and Ink - Ocean Gift - Still Here
At the height of the fur trade, hunters had reduced the sea otter population to fewer than 2,000 animals across the entire Pacific.
From an estimated 300,000. Nearly gone.
The International Fur Seal Treaty of 1911 gave them a chance. They took it. Today there are over 100,000 sea otters in the North Pacific.
The sea otter has the densest fur of any animal on earth - up to one million hairs per square inch. It sleeps floating on its back, wrapped in kelp so the current doesn't carry it away. It holds hands with other otters so they don't drift apart while they sleep.
It almost didn't make it.
Still Here.
